The WV Asthma Education and Prevention Program (WVAEPP) is seeking to ensure that all of our state's asthma education and prevention organizations - from state government programs to non-profit organizations - are working together to educate in every community on asthma prevention and early diagnosis, proper treatment per national clinical guidelines, medication and needed medical equipment, and improved quality of life.
WVAEPP works to increase coordination and cooperation between asthma related organizations and programs throughout the state. By joining forces, our goal is to increase access to asthma information and resources while promoting education and adherence to the guidelines set forth by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
WVAEPP was awarded funds by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through a cooperative grant agreement with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. WVAEPP is one of a few states, tribes, and territories funded for asthma activities by the CDC. With these funds, the WVAEPP funds the operation and facilitation of a statewide asthma coalition (WVAC), state level data collection and analysis in partnership with the WV Health Statistics Center, as well as other program asthma initiatives and interventions.
